Colin Trevorrow has been fired as the director of the upcoming Star Wars film. He was directing Episode 9 which has been slated for 2019 release, for now.

Apparently, Lucas Films and Trevorrow could not agree on creative terms. “Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ”, says a statement on the Star Wars website. Trevorrow is a celebrated director having directed movies like Safety Not Guaranteed and Jurrasic World (2015).

Lucas Films has had experience in firing of directors, having fired the directors of the  stand alone Han Solo film, slated for a 2018 release. Jon Howard acts as a replacement for the Han Solo film, whereas the replacement for Colin Trevorrow has not been announced, yet.

Episode 9 is said to be the conclusion to the Star Wars series but Lucas Films and Disney are currently working on various spinoffs. Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Episode 8) is releasing later this year on 15 December.
